Do You Need A Straight or Curved Stair Lift?
The shape of your staircase will determine whether you need a straight or curved stairlift. Generally speaking, if there are no turns in the staircase then a straight stair lift would be appropriate and if there are one or more bends in the staircase then a curved stairlift would be appropriate. However, there are some situations where either a straight or a curved stairlift may be fitted. For example: if you have a straight staircase that leads to a flat platform (see Staircase 2) where the steps turn by 90 degrees and continue on for a few steps then installing a bridging platform (see stairlift accessories) would allow you to have a straight stairlift rather than a curved, this could save you around £1,000-£2,000. Also in situations where you have two straight runs of stairs (see Staircase 6) it is possible to install two straight stairlifts rather than a curved stairlift saving you around £1,000.
It is important to have an idea of what type of stair lift you may require, before making the decision to buy a stair lift, due to the difference in cost between a straight and curved stairlift. The examples below should help to give you an idea of what type of stair lift you may require:
